ADMS (Advanced Distribution Management System) Overview

An Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) is a comprehensive software platform used by electric utilities to manage, monitor, and optimize the operation of their power distribution networks. It integrates various functionalities into a single system, improving grid reliability, efficiency, and resilience.

Key Components of ADMS

ADMS combines multiple traditional utility systems into a unified platform, including:

  • SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) – Monitors and controls field devices, such as circuit breakers and transformers, in real time.
  • DMS (Distribution Management System) – Manages the distribution grid by analyzing power flows, detecting faults, and optimizing grid performance.
  • OMS (Outage Management System) – Detects, analyzes, and restores power outages, helping utilities manage service restoration efficiently.
  • DERMS (Distributed Energy Resource Management System) – Integrates and optimizes distributed energy resources (DERs), such as solar, wind, and battery storage.
